Where Will Your YES Take You?

August 12, 2023 Cathleen Zahradnik

'Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”’ Luke 1:38

Do you ever feel stuck? You know what I mean. Your life becomes predictable. Comfortable. Mundane. Routines are a valuable tool when they are designed to help you accomplish what is necessary and important, but if you aren’t careful, they can just suck you into the same-old same-old. Rise, routine, repeat. Right? That’s not what you want!

What do you want? You want a life that zings with meaning, purpose, passion, and potential. You want to know that you are discovering more—all the things that God created you for. You want your life to be a fulfilling adventure, not simply satisfying. Full. Even a little bit exciting. Am I right?

I totally get it and I have been there. What I’ve learned is that every day holds the possibility to discover some of that MORE. The key that unlocks potential is a three-letter word: YES. If you can allow yourself to think in terms of that three-letter word you will find yourself on what I like to call The YES Adventure. Yes by yes you discover the more you were meant for. You discover your MORE when you give God your YES. Are you ready? Start by shifting your mindset. Where will your YES take you? Apply these mindset shifts to begin your YES adventure.

Every day is full of multiple opportunities. You don’t need to change your routine. You just need to change how you think about it. What if you began each day looking for opportunities? You have the opportunity to grow every day. You have the opportunity to stretch every day. You have the opportunity to reach just a bit farther and step just a bit outside your comfort zone. Every day. What opportunity might you need to say YES to today?

Every decision opens multiple possibilities.  Those small opportunities open different possibilities. Each small YES, small step, small stretch, nudges you on a slightly different trajectory. Every tiny degree of change could lead you to discover something you never encountered before. I know that has been my story. Small step by small step, YES by YES, I discovered myself becoming a person I never expected to be, doing things I never expected to do. Where I am now is so far from where I started! But it didn’t happen quickly. It happened a bit at a time. What possibilities are on the other side of your small opportunities?

Every possibility develops potential.  As you step into those new possibilities you unlock more of your potential. Every tiny trek outside your comfort zone helps you to realize that you really can do more. You really can be more. There really is MORE!

Every YES is like dropping a dipper into a well. You pull it up full, so you know there is more down there. It makes you want to drop that dipper down again. And then you realize that a dipper is not enough. You’ve got to find a bucket and pull up even more!

My friend, your more is waiting for you! God has a plan for you. Really, He does! What if you said YES to the next small opportunity He offers you? Where might that take you? The possibilities and potential are ready to be unlocked by that one three-letter word: YES!

Key Question: Where will your YES take you?

A Scripture to Consider: 'Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”’ Luke 1:38

A YES Challenge: Give yourself time to consider what opportunity you could say YES to today. What possibility could that YES open for you? How might that possibility develop your potential?

Prayer: Father, I want to be and do all that you have for me. Sometimes I feel stuck where I am. The routines that are comfortable and comforting sometimes feel stale and stifling Help me to see beyond today. Help me to recognize the possibilities and potential You are offering me today. Help me to say YES to the scariest opportunity when I know that it is You offering it to me because I know that whatever You have for me is good. Amen.

A - C = P: Anxiety - Control = Peace (Repost)
August 8, 2026

'Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. ‘Philippians 4:6-7 MSG

I was listening to a podcast when I heard a quote that brought so much clarity, I couldn’t get it out of my head. Here it is: “Anxiety results from wanting to control something God has not given us to control.” I didn’t remember the name of the person or why she was on the podcast, but what she said made so much practical sense. (I looked it up later. So, if you are interested, it was Joanna Weaver’s podcast, The Living Room, and the guest was Sharon Hodde Miller, author of The Cost of Control: Why We Crave It, the Anxiety It Gives Us, and the Real Power God Promises Us.) As I pondered her statement, a formula took shape in my brain, “A – C = P,” Anxiety – Control = Peace. Easy to remember and a goal worth aiming for.

Anxiety is something we all experience. Anxiety steals peace and commands focus. Whether it’s something personal about your family, or a job, or something broader like politics and the world situation, anxiety creeps up behind us, leaps upon us and gets us in a stranglehold. Ever feel that way?

Your brain goes in circles, trying to resolve something you are powerless to resolve. You can’t sleep and every waking moment is consumed with mental and practical fruitless attempts to solve the problem. Suddenly, it seems like nothing else is happening in your life. What started as a thought becomes a huge shadow. What do you do?
